This is a copy of the speech I gave at the St. Vincent de Paul conference on February 14, 2017 in Victoria, BC, Canada. Hello, my name is Erin Watling. I am a 29 year old gender-neutral adult. I work as a cashier and dishwasher at A&W, and in my spare time I volunteer at AIDS Vancouver Island and create art and poetry. I graduated from the Community Mental Health and Addictions Support Worker program at Camosun College in 2009. When I was four years old I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome. Mary was always lonely.  That's how it all began. The first time I really met her... Well, I'd seen her around school before, but I'd never gotten close to her.  I'd never really paid much attention to her.  But that day, that fateful day, I happened to chance upon her whilst out for a walk.  There she was, utterly mesmerizing as she kneeled down to admire the flowers, a wistful melancholy in her voice as she gently whispered to them to grow big and strong.  I'll admit, I was enchanted by her from that very moment.  I couldn't let such a beautiful girl be sad, and so...
